Second Sunday After Epiphany

January 16, 2022

Bulletin Video

The Sundays after Epiphany continue to celebrate the revelation of God’s glory to us as it was made known to the magi and to those on Jordan’s banks at Jesus’ baptism—today using wedding imagery. Our God rejoices over God’s people as those being married rejoice over one another. By the power of the Spirit there are gifts galore for everyone. In Christ Jesus the best wine is saved for last. Taste and see.

Matthew House Thank You

At this time of year when we reflect on things that we are thankful for, I want to extend my thanks to the congregation of Good Shepherd Church for the support that I have been given for maintaining Matthew House.

Many have volunteered time, money and/or supplies to support the clients that pass through our door. I took over the Unit Coordinator position at Matthew House in August of 2014. The unit is now being prepared for its 10th family since Good Shepherd joined the EPH organization. We have helped many families along their road to self sufficiency!

This turnover I especially want to thank Sue Larson, Diane and Steve Lenz and Tarra Gallagher for coming to Matthew to lend me a hand in the preparation process. Also I want to thank Lois Appel for her donations of books, items and lots of learning materials for children. Thank you to the Feltons for their donations of items including a glider rocker that has been placed in Matthew at this turnover. Also thanks to Cindy Gentz and her group for donations of gift cards for Woodmans and Menards which are put to good use at every turnover. Also thanks to Paula Vander Grinten and her women’s group for their donations of items that are also needed and placed in Matthew House at turnovers. Also thanks to Elaine Ketola, Gordon and Marie Ellis, Scott and Sue Metzger, Cory Zuleger, and Sue Riemer who have all helped in the past. Many thanks to anyone I may have missed and to all those who have donated items and gift cards. And a special thank you to Steve and Brenda Berend who have faithfully attended to the exterior maintenance (grass cutting, snow blowing, etc.) at Matthew House for several years, how many years has it been Steve?

Pastor Jen came to Matthew House on March 6th of this year to do a house blessing. Her visit was truly appreciated especially since it was done on such short notice. Because of time constraints and COVID concerns, just a few attended the house blessing which I think touched all of us in a special way. We had some very troubled families staying in the unit and we had a wonderful client stay just after the blessing! I would like to believe that the house blessing made a difference in the success of the last family and hopefully for those families to come.

There is no other feeling like the one a person gets from giving of oneself for the sake of others. Matthew House gives me that special warmth that comes from giving.

Blessing to all, Shirley Kocha

The Music Corner

Good Shepherd is looking for instrumentalists of all types. Are you new to music and want to get a start with something new? You are in luck; the Ringers Jubilate bell choir is looking for more ringers and substitutes. Do you play an instrument and would like to share your talents with the rest of us? You are in luck; we are looking to fill our services with special music, specifically with instrumentalists. Are you a trained pianist? You are in luck; we still need pianists to cover hymns for our upcoming services and pianist get a stipend for each service they play for. For more information on these opportunities, please contact Corey Christenson by email at cchristenson@gslcgb.org or text/call at 920-569-9800.

We are in need of Sunday School teachers at all grade levels across the board. This could be done individually or in teams. Please prayerfully consider a call to this role. There is very minimal prep, and you need not be a biblical scholar, but I promise your faith will grow as you help to foster the faith of our congregation's children. Even if you can only commit to helping once or twice a month - your help is NEEDED!!

Please let me know if you can help or if you have any questions.
